The NETLAKE Deployment Toolbox, guidelines on everything you wanted to know about setting up an automated monitoring station, is now online at www.netlake.org. They will be of use to both water managers and researchers. Each of the 14 factsheets on deployment can be downloaded separately, or as a complete set, as pdfs. These are full of really useful information and build on the extensive knowledge of people in both NETLAKE and GLEON on the practicalities of setting up these systems, and are well worth a look. They have lots of practical information on setting up a station, including power and communications options, as well as guidelines on common problems that those running these systems encounter, for example dealing with ice cover, and protecting against lightning.
